How We Transformed a Parking Lot into Provo’s Most Unique Event Venue and Museum
Key Takeaways
This venue took 4 years of creative effort and city negotiations to bring to life.
The location now features a one-of-a-kind museum and retro wedding/event space.
Bathrooms are built inside semi-trailers and use bus lifts for ADA-compliant access.
The project was inspired by a family legacy of collecting vintage gas signs, antique cars, and Americana memorabilia.
Today, the Sparks Museum and Event Center is one of the most unique places to host events in Provo.
The Origin Story
In the beginning...
In the winter of 2019, a spark of inspiration ignited a years-long journey. The lot in Provo, once a quiet corner for long-term RV parking, was land we already owned. While most would see only a flat, dusty property, I saw the beginnings of something remarkable.
Having acquired a large steel building, my mind immediately went to the idea of a museum—a home for my father Sparky’s cherished collection of Petroliana: vintage gas pumps, antique cars, and rare porcelain gas signs that dated back generations.
This wasn't just a family project. It was a mission. My father’s collection told a story—one of American ingenuity, roadside culture, and nostalgia—and it needed a proper stage.
Hitting Roadblocks
The city said no. No sewer access. No building. No bathrooms. And no clear solution in sight.
But if you know me—or my father—you know we don't accept "no" without a fight. I met with Provo City planners, engineers, inspectors, and more. It was a whirlwind of red tape, bureaucracy, and flat-out rejection. Still, every obstacle was just another puzzle to solve.
After more than a year, persistence paid off. With the right plan, some creative civil engineering, and a lot of negotiation, we got the green light. A compromise was reached: we’d build raised structures, including bathrooms high off the ground, with our own lift station to connect to city sewers—located over a mile away.
Creative Construction Choices
Creativity Won
Raising the ground, installing electricity and water, and building elevated bathrooms inside old semi-trailers—none of this was standard. But that’s what makes the Sparks Museum and Event Center unforgettable.
To comply with ADA standards, we installed bus lifts for accessibility. These retrofitted features don’t just meet code—they add character. Each element reflects our passion for doing things differently. Rather than hiding our limitations, we leaned into them and used them to create something iconic.
Designing a Venue with Soul
Soul and History.
The building was never intended to be just a museum or just an event center. It had to be both. From custom lighting over vintage cars to wall-mounted gas station signs that double as photo backdrops, every detail was intentional.
Our space caters to wedding parties, corporate events, reunions, and photographers who are searching for something a little outside the norm. We bring guests into a world of chrome, color, and craftsmanship.
Why It’s Worth Visiting
What makes this venue so unique isn’t just the aesthetics—it’s the heart behind it. You’re walking through history curated by a father and daughter. Every piece has a backstory, a purpose, a memory.
And because the space is unlike anything else in Utah County, it’s also ideal for events that want to stand out. We’re not your typical barn or ballroom. We’re neon lights, restored classics, and modern hospitality with a nostalgic twist.
Final Thoughts from Tiffany
Four years later, we’ve built more than a building—we’ve built a legacy. The Sparks Museum and Event Center is a testament to vision, resilience, and the power of saying “Why not?” instead of “We can’t.”
So if you’re planning a wedding, photo shoot, or private event and want something truly unique, I invite you to come see what we’ve built.

A Big Thanks to Provo City
We couldn't have done this without the support, guidance, and patience of Provo City. From the planning department to the civil engineering team, we worked with countless city employees who took the time to understand our vision—and eventually, helped us make it real.
While the early stages brought challenges, the city was never against us. They just needed the right plan. Once that was in place, they became a partner in progress. It’s because of Provo City’s collaborative spirit that this venue now stands as one of the most unique event spaces in Utah.
We're especially grateful for their flexibility in finding a creative solution for sewer access and for approving our unconventional—but code-compliant—bathroom design.
