How Much Does a Professional Photoshoot Cost in Utah?

The short version: A professional photoshoot in Utah has two costs: the photographer and the location. One Provo photographer lists headshots from $350 and engagement sessions at $950, and The Knot puts the national average for a wedding photographer at $3,000. Indoor locations in Provo rent from $40 to $225 an hour, and Sparks Museum and Event Center rents for photoshoots at $100 an hour with a 1-hour minimum. Add both lines before you compare quotes.

Most price guides quote only the photographer. If your shoot happens somewhere other than a public park, the location is a second bill, and it changes the total. This guide splits the two, with published prices captured on Oct 9, 2026. Prices change, so confirm current rates before you book.

What do photographers charge per hour in Utah?

We did not find a Utah-wide survey of photographer rates, so the best guide is published prices from local photographers plus national averages.

A Provo example. Justin Hackworth Photography, based in Provo, lists these prices on its site:

  • Short business portrait, such as a LinkedIn headshot: about $350

  • Headshots at the studio: $350 to $1,600, depending on length and number of images

  • Corporate headshots: from $450 at the studio

  • Bridal and engagement sessions with two locations: $950

National averages. These are not Utah figures:

  • Weddings: The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study, based on 10,474 U.S. couples married in 2025, puts the average wedding photographer cost at $3,000.

  • Portraits: The rate guide ChargeWhat lists typical U.S. portrait and headshot rates of $150 to $350 an hour, or $75 to $350 a session.

  • Mini sessions: Nina Merklina Photography, a North Carolina photographer, writes that mini sessions in her area typically run $150 to $300 for 20 to 30 minutes, with 3 to 10 edited images.

Many photographers sell sessions or packages instead of hourly time. The Knot notes that most wedding photographers charge a flat fee. Compare what each quote includes, not just the headline price.

What makes one photoshoot cost more than another?

Time, deliverables, and usage drive most of the difference.

  • Length of the session. A 20-minute mini session costs less than a two-hour session with outfit changes.

  • Number of edited images. More finished images means more editing time.

  • Number of people. Large families and corporate teams take longer to pose and often cost more.

  • Locations. Each added location adds travel and setup time, and may add a location fee.

  • Use of the photos. Business and commercial use can cost more than personal use, because the license is broader.

  • Prints and albums. These are usually priced separately from digital files.

  • Travel. Some photographers add a travel fee outside their home area. Justin Hackworth Photography, for example, adds a travel fee for shoots outside Salt Lake and Utah County.

Do you pay separately for the photo location?

Often, yes. Some public places cost nothing to use, though some require a permit, while studios, private properties, and venues charge their own fee. That fee is separate from the photographer’s price.

Ask your photographer two questions before you sign: is any location fee included in the quote, and who books the space? Some photographers include a studio they own. Others expect the client to book and pay for the location. Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Photographer covers the full list.

How much does it cost to rent an indoor photo location in Provo?

At Sparks Museum and Event Center, photoshoots book at $100 an hour with a 1-hour minimum. The 3-hour minimum for events does not apply to shoots. The rate covers the floor, where the neon signs can be turned on or off and can appear in photos, and guests can pose with the classic cars. Touching or getting in a car needs a manager present to direct it, and there is no charge for that. Setup counts inside your booked time. The bride’s room doubles as a changing room. For how these spaces compare as backdrops, see Best Indoor Photo Locations in Provo for Any Weather, or view the floor on the event space page.

Budget a photoshoot by adding the photographer’s fee, the location fee, and the extras, then leaving a small cushion.

  1. Photographer. Get a written quote with session length, number of images, and delivery date.

  2. Location. Add the hourly rate times the hours you need. Setup usually counts inside the booked time.

  3. Extras. Prints, albums, extra images, travel fees, and cleaning fees.

  4. Wardrobe and hair. Optional, but easy to forget. What to Wear for Indoor Photos in Provo helps you plan outfits you may already own.

Frequently asked questions

Are mini sessions cheaper?

Often, up front. One North Carolina photographer puts typical mini sessions at $150 to $300 for 20 to 30 minutes, with 3 to 10 edited images. Check how many images you get and what extra images cost.

Does the photographer pay the location fee or do I?

It depends on the photographer. Ask before you sign and get the answer in the contract. At Sparks Museum and Event Center, a photographer can book the space for a client, and the photographer needs business insurance that covers any damage.

Is editing included?

Ask before you book. Find out whether editing is in the session price, how many finished images you receive, and what extra edits cost.

Do Provo studios charge by the hour?

Most of the Provo studios we found list hourly rates, from $40 an hour at Justin Hackworth Photography to $85 an hour at Wasatch Studio. Some also list full-day rates.
